Course Leader Vacancy

We are looking to recruit a Course Leader, based in one of our small educational provisions in East London (maximum class size 10-15 students). The Course Leader will lead a small group of students and tutors, delivering a minimum of 10 teaching sessions a week. You will be the lead teacher in English Language but you will also be required to also assist in other subjects.

Duties will include:

- Overseeing and monitoring the schemes of work and lesson plans across the course in collaboration with other Senior members of staff.
- Creating a scheme of work and lesson plans for your subject
- Writing your own reports and collating the other reports from all subject leaders- checking that all grades correspond
- Assessing and documenting students progress in line with the campus policy
- Attending meetings with senior management when required
- Attending meetings with teachers when required
- In charge of Pastoral care of your students, including day-to-day discipline sanctions and rewards
- Liaising with parents when needed
- Attending student review meetings with parents
- Covering teachers’ lessons when needed
- Instructing and guiding any teaching assistants that work in the classroom with you

Experience in deescalation and behaviour techniques would be an advantage, as many of our students have difficulty working in groups.

The working hours are based on 09.00-17.00 weekdays (term-time only), with planning, preparation, reports and completion of some documents taking place outside of these hours. It is expected that the Course Leader will be available at the centre from 09.00-16.00 each day and sometimes later when required for meetings.

This is a full time contract for 40 weeks, which take place between September 2014 and July 2015.

Tutoring is a tough job and can be very demanding, but equally as rewarding if you are willing to commit to the cause. If you are energetic, creative and organised, and serious about making a difference to the education of vulnerable young people, this could be the job for you.

The starting wage is £18 per hour for experienced Tutors, or £12ph for Tutors in Training. Both part-time and full-time hours are available – our Education Co-ordinators will work with you to design a timetable that suits you, however we do prefer to take on tutors who are available full-time (school hours).

Autumn tour 2013 – The Complete Works & Italia Conti

After the success of last years ‘As you like it’ we have created another fantastic Shakespeare play for the new academic year in conjunction with Italia Conti Academy.  This year we are very excited to announce that we are staging ‘The Comedy of Errors’ and we will be performing it across schools in London and the surrounding areas.

The performances will be taking place from Monday 30th September – Friday 4th October with an AM performance starting at 9.30 and a PM performance starting a 1.30 (NB there is some flexibility with this). The performance will last for approximately 1hr 30 mins including a Q&A session at the end.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience high-quality, high-energy, live Shakespeare performed in their own school. The play has been adapted and abridged to suit student audiences, and we receive very positive feedback for these performances year after year. Our version of the play is set in the 1920′s and incorporates live music and dance, all performed against a beautiful art-deco style backdrop.

The performance is suitable for all year groups, and can be performed for any audience size from one class to a whole year group.

The Memory Palace Performance – A weird and wonderful night to remember at the V&A

On 15th August 2013 TCW ran an evening of interactive performance at the V&A on behalf of Mastercard Priceless London events.

We employed around 40 actors, musicians, dancers and circus performers for what was most probably our largest-scale creative project to date, and thanks to the hard work and incredible talent of all those involved, the night was a massive success!

The premise for the performance was inspired by the book and current exhibition at the V&A entitled ‘The Memory Palace‘. The text, written by Hari Kunzru, depicts a world in which the ability to remember has been eradicated as a result of a magnetic storm, and those precious few who are still able to remember the past have been incarcerated by the oppressive government.

We decided to set our performance in a world where this government has been overthrown, and the civilians are coming together to remember and celebrate the past together. The performance was promenade in nature, as we were lucky enough to be given permission to roam freely around the museum!

We wrote 4 different bespoke scripts, gave improvisation-based workshops for our actors in preparation, employed professional dancers, musicians and circus performers, and provided all of the costumes for the performance… Phew! A video of the night’s weird and wonderful shenanigans is on the way – so make sure to watch this space!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved, including The Big Group (who commissioned us for the entertainment), Event Concept (who ran the production and tech on the night) and of course the Victoria and Albert Museum. It certainly was a memorable night!

Education Co-Ordinator (SEN)

Essential skills/experience:
• Experience of working with young people – particularly those students with Special Educational Needs
• Confident and professional telephone manner – able to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life
• Highly organised and able to work under pressure
• Approachable, friendly and helpful
• An awareness of the educational and personal needs of young people who may have behavioural problems, learning difficulties or difficult personal circumstances

Main duties:
• Monitor on-going tuition with both tutors and clients
• Answer the phones and deal with enquiries, liaise between tutors, parents and education clients
• Match tuition requests to suitable tutors
• Ensure all policies and procedures meet standard requirements and are up to date (e.g. OFSTED). 

  • Create, design and source resources for tutors to use with their SEN students
  • Keep track of new strategies for successfully working with students with SEN and disseminate information to tutors 

• Check tutor reports and send to clients monthly
• Update and maintain data/filing systems for current students and clients
• Communicate effectively with fellow colleagues and education supervisor
• Monitor and ensure that tutors’ weekly paperwork is sent in on time
• Carry out any other ad-hoc duties

The Fast>>Forward project will be touring Schools in the London borough of Croydon from
Friday 23rd until Friday the 30th of November 2012.

The play contains urban music and street dance and is inspired by the theme of Parkour/ Free-Running. It focuses on three young people, who pause to consider how to move forward with their lives. Should they stay on at school, go for further training or find employment?

The performance is followed by an interactive workshop, which explores the consequences of decisions the characters have made in the play and the range choices open the young people in the audience.

The project will last for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes (which includes a 50 minute Performance and a 40 minute Workshop).

On Tuesday Andy and I organised my own drawer in the cupboard to keep all of my project work in. I have many different projects happening with TCW at the moment and needed somewhere to store my work. I really enjoyed it, it was very fun.

On Wednesday we cooked a Lasagne and Andy took some photographs of me preparing it for a comic book style recipe book we are going to make. I like cooking; my favourite food is Jamaican food. In the afternoon I went rock climbing. I really enjoy the rock climbing sessions.

Today I have done Music. I do drumming in music; we are trying to form a band. We are working well as a group.

Recently I have also visited the National Theatre on the South Bank to look at lighting.
I am interested in lighting and my youth club allow me to do the lighting for their shows.

I am also just starting a photography project where I am being taught all different things about cameras.
